Where to Eat in Uluwatu

Uluwatu is a big place to be hungry in. The name covers most of the Bukit Peninsula, from the temple on the cliff to the surf beaches and the villages between them. Shaffa GastroBazar sits on Jalan Pantai Balangan, the road down to Balangan Beach: an open-air terrace over the treetops and the village roofs, with a line of ocean on the horizon, and a kitchen that cooks over wood and fire.
It opens at eight for breakfast and runs to ten at night, so it covers the whole Uluwatu day: coffee before the surf, a long breakfast, lunch out of the sun, dinner when the lanterns come on. This page is everything about eating there, by time of day. Prices are in Indonesian rupiah.

A sunset dinner in Uluwatu, away from the clifftop crowd

Shaffa is not on a cliff. The terrace is open to the air and looks over the treetops and village roofs to the ocean on the horizon, and the sunset reaches the tables: at about six the light turns the terrace orange and the lanterns come on. Sunset falls between about 18:07 and 18:46 depending on the month, so for the light still on the table, book for around half past five. There is no minimum spend.
